SEIU Disaffiliates From National AFL-CIO to Concentrate on Strategies to Unite Millions More Working People.

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which with 1.8 million members was the largest and fastest growing union in the AFL-CIO, has officially disaffiliated from the national federation, effective July 25, 2005.  Read more at ChangeToWin.org.  website.

      At the eighteenth annual convention of the American Federation of Labor, which was held in Kansas City, Missouri in 1898, five delegates got together to discuss mutual interests. At that time, December 18, 1898, the International Brotherhood of Stationary Firemen was born.  Read about our long and proud history from this time through our affiliation with SEIU in 1995.

This local gained its Charter in March of 1935.  The Local began with only 2 facilities under contract.  By 2005 the local has grown to represent over 40 different contracts in over 300 locations covering 6 states.
